Jury Verdict of $10 Million ($10,000,000)

Loretta Carter and Don Carter v. Billy Hudson, Bell Sports, Inc, et al.

Circuit Court of Tallapoosa County

On July 2, 2012, Loretta Carter was riding her bicycle on County Road 40 in the Jackson’s Gap area with her husband Don. Loretta was knocked from her bicycle by a dog that was not properly restrained, in violation of the local leash law. Loretta suffered a severe head impact resulting in permanent brain damage.

After two weeks of trial, an Alexander City jury returned a verdict on September 1, 2017 for damages in the total sum of $10 million for the Carters against the dog owners. Mr. Sharpe was truly honored to represent Mr. and Mrs. Carter under these most difficult circumstances. Mr. Sharpe worked with the firm of Belt & Bruner on the case.


Wrongful Death Settlement of $1,000,000.00

Est. of Dorothy Hodge v. MHF Logistical Solutions

Circuit Court of Tallapoosa County

On October 8, 2008, a tractor trailer operated by Thomas Lee Stephens of Jacksonville, Florida ran the red light on US Highway 280 as Dorothy Hodge attempted to cross Hwy. 280 on Lafayette Street in Dadeville. As a result of this collision, Dorothy Hodge lost her life. Attorneys for the trucking company repeatedly denied liability, claiming that Mrs. Hodge ran the traffic light and that she was at fault. However, the existence of video evidence from the convenience store at the intersection was uncovered by Mr. Sharpe which proved that Mrs. Hodge had the green light and the tractor trailer had indeed run through a red light and caused the deadly collision. Mr. Sharpe was honored to represent the Hodge family.


 

Anonymous Plaintiff vs. Anonymous Auto Manufacturer

A confidential settlement in excess of $1,000,000.00 was reached with an automobile manufacturer in a crashworthiness case.


Personal Injury Settlement of $600,000.00

Ray Price vs. Birmingham Air Freight, et al.

Tallapoosa County Circuit Court

Ray Price was seriously injured in a vehicular accident in which the log truck he was driving was struck by a Birmingham Air Freight transport van. Mr. Price sustained permanent back injuries. The case settled at mediation prior to trial. Ray is now deceased and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Mr. Sharpe was honored to represent Ray who was a client and a friend.

Tallapoosa County Personal Injury Trucking Accident Settlement

This personal injury case was the result of a rear-end collision where a tractor trailer struck the Plaintiffs from behind on U.S. Highway 280. Both passengers of the vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries. The case was settled prior to a lawsuit being filed for the combined sum of $600,000.00. The Plaintiff’s name is withheld at his request.

 


Lee County Wrongful Death Settlement of $500,000.00

Estate of Brandy Treadwell

This wrongful death case resulted from an automobile collision causing the death of Brandy Treadwell. The case was settled for $500,000.00, the total amount of insurance proceeds available.

Clifford Deas, et al vs. Grand Casinos of Mississippi, Inc. - Biloxi and Jesse Davis

Circuit Court of Harrison County Mississippi

This personal injury case arose out of a collision between a Grand Casino shuttle bus, which rear-ended the vehicle driven by Clifford Deas, with his mother being a passenger. Our client suffered significant injuries in the accident, including a back injury. The combined settlement amount in this case was $400,000.00.

Circuit Court of Tallapoosa County, Alabamai

This personal injury case arose out of a motor vehicle accident in which the client, a minor, was a passenger in the vehicle of the defendant who was also a minor at the time. The attorneys were able to avoid the Alabama guest passenger defense in order to obtain a recovery for the client who had sustained serious bodily injuries including multiple bone fractures.

Circuit Court of Shelby County, AL

This personal injury claim arose out of a collision involving our client, Tommy Sterns, who was struck head on by the other motorist who had fallen asleep at the wheel and crossed over into his lane. This personal injury claim arose out of an automobile collision involving an on-duty police officer for the City of Auburn. The officer was struck from behind and sustained cervical disc injuries requiring surgery. Jury Verdict of $220,000.00

Wilma and John Spraggins vs. Nationwide Mutual Fire Insurance Company

Circuit Court of Tallapoosa County Alabama

Mr. and Mrs. Spraggins were rear-ended in Opelika, Alabama. Mrs. Spraggins sustained head injuries and Mr. Spraggins sustained neck injuries. The case was tried before a jury in Dadeville, AL which rendered a verdict for Wilma Spraggins in the amount of $150,000.00 and for John Spraggins in the amount of $70,000.00, for a combined jury award of $220,000.00. According to long-time local attorneys, this jury verdict is thought to be the largest “personal injury” jury award ever in the Dadeville division of the Tallapoosa County Circuit Court.


Settlement of $200,000.00

Douglas Dunham vs. Montgomery Lock & Key, Inc., et al.

Circuit Court of Elmore County, Alabama

Mr. Dunham was struck from behind by a Montgomery Lock & Key van and sustained a cervical disc injury resulting in surgery. The case was settled for $200,000.00 at mediation prior to trial.
